New Style

Today we worked on the prices of what we are buying, we have all given $10 to buy the cost of the wood and paint. We were VERY confused on what we should buy, because a budget of paint cost over $35!!! EXPENSIVE!! So we said NO we are not buying that expensive paint. We found the thunderbird forest wood for $7.99 this wood was perfect in the size to work with to build the desk. We also found chrome paint for $5.49 this was cheap and it will look cool! So we have got a total of around $26.98 so we will cut it really close to the cost! We were so happy that we got it for the price we did, we are ready to build this desk over the holidays, we need to get this bought and done so we can relax and have fun over the christmas break!

Drawings!

Today I worked on the final drawing of our desk. I did change the bars to connect the desk to the iHelper, I changed them to be slanted and have a bar in the middle of them. These bars are like this to make the desk more stable. With those bars slanted then they have more area to work with also the bar across keeps these bars from moving closer or further away from each other. This idea seemed better to me and seemed a better and more efficient way to help the desk with the weight of the laptop on the iHelper. Will and Landon worked with the website Home Depot to find parts. We did find that the price dropped on the track systems we needed and also so did the sheet metal lowered also! We are very very surprised that it lowered and we were very happy.
This is NOT a gun!!!!!!!!!!

Problems!

We have worked on the measurements of the desks again. Also we found a problem, the time left to build…. this is because we worked until we perfected the design. This is a problem because we took up a BUNCH of time just planning the layout of the iHelper. This means the we do not think we have enough time to build the iHelper. This maybe the reason this project may go unfinished if we don’t HURRY!! We are also having problems finding track systems, only 2 weeks ago there were a large amount of track systems, now there is 3! 3!!! We may not be able to get track systems! This makes us very unhappy and confused at where all the tracks went! I retook the measurements of the desk to make triple sure that they were right. When we know we will have the time to build then we will all pitch in to help fun the desk. This is what we have done this week and as I promised here is the presentation!

Mock Up

Today I worked on the final model as you can see, Landon and Will finalized their slide show to be added to mine. What I did was put a model of the track systems and the hight we wanted and taped it down to make a rough model of the desk. We will be adding a video, because the desk actually moves!! We were very impressed that I got it to move side to side. We now need to start buying parts and make a final blueprint so we can begin to put the desk together! This is very important that we have our blueprint down right so there are no mistakes! This is VERY crucial to the building, I will be presenting our slide show on the 21st of November. I will add it to my Blogger, I will also get Will and Landon to add it to theirs also.

Staus Update In Progress

Today I worked on my speaking part of the status update. What I did was added some images and tested how long my part ran, mine ran at 1 minute and 26 seconds. This is the time stamp I needed. I hit the main points of the desk and then there will be detail added by Landon and Will. Next we will be finalizing the slide show and then we will present on November 21st. We have set up the slide show based on the outline, and Landon and Will are typing their parts and soon will combining all of our power points together to make one larger slide show. Also I put some images in the slide show to fill time and to represent what could happen if the iHelper isn’t been used. We also found a quote from Steve Jobs that inspired us to the design we have today, he has always said his product are clean looking, so we will be making the iHelper out of metal so it looks cleaner.

Update

What we did today was we worked on the mid-update project. This is what we worked on today, be have gotten the basses of the powerpoint. We also worked with the final placements of the track system, we have decided to put the tracks in opposite directions like so

                                                          _____________________

                                                            -----> -----> -----> ------>
                                                          _____________________

                                                          _____________________

                                                             <------ <------ <-----
                                                          _____________________
sorry for the rough example…. But this is the "picture" I am going to use! This is how we decided to place the track system so is moved cleanly and with out problems. We also had to think of the cost that we would have to put into the parts. We have also gotten over half way through the presentation! Be ready for the surprise, and I will put the presentation on the blogger for those who would like to know whats happening. This is what we did today in our 20% project today on 11/1/13.

Mock-Up

Today we worked on the Mock-Up of the Smart Desk, what we did is took cardboard and then we taped up a rough rough rough mock-up. We will have to start buying the pieces soon, then we will slowly put together the desk. We think it will be made of wood, and metal, we are not completely sure though. We have decided that the clip on desk will move left, right, forward, and backwards. This will be a very rough mock-up that we will later make the cleaner version of the mock-up then will come a prototype then a real version, we have added some newish features to the desk, thanks to my sister and her friends. This was the height, and the cable holder along with the forward and backward motion. We will soon make it look clean and neat and will closely resemble the final desk.

Today we worked out with the demintions of the desk. What I did was work with the track system that rolls across the desk. How I did this is by taking to track systems and setting one fully open and then taking the other track system and place next to the open track and kept this close. When you move the desk back and forth one closes and the other one opens, so now it is stable and will be better opening and closing. We figured out that we will have to play with the track system that pulls it closer or further to you. We have worked out all of the demintions of the desk and placement. If you will look at Landon S. and Will C. they will have snapshots of some of the demintions of the desk. Next week we will make a full layout of the desk and play with some placements.

Track System

Today in class we worked with the set up of our track system. We worked with how high we placed the track system, this took a little bit, but we have finally worked all on of the kinks out of our track system. We still have to work on the platform that holds up the laptop. We have the idea to be able to turn the laptop platform so it can be seen from all angels that a student can move the laptop to see it. All we have to work on now is the platform and the part that holds up the laptop, we have to get the tubes that will let the laptop spin , this is almost one larger tube into a larger tube and then it will spin in the tube. The track system will work if you don’t overload the system, but ours won’t be overloaded.

Design Flaws

Today for our 20% project idea we worked with SKETCHES again!!!

We had to rethink how we clamp the smart desk to the real desk. We have to think of the sliding system, but we do have

the swivel system down. The swivel system uses is own support bars for the swivel, thus it is one less part that has to

added, it can angel the way the monitor faces and this makes the design even easier. We also played with the desk

clamp design. We have to fool around with the system, but we can make it easier to use and thus makes the project for

people to use. We now have to make our color choices also now, this will be very simple and we will have to make them

a basic color that will not be too bright for people to look at we also worked on the name the FLoW Desk.

Today for our Smart Desk we sketched some layouts for the desk and some track systems. What we

did is sketched out some of the mechanicals that hold the laptop up and keep it stable. We have had to

also think of the clips that hold the laptop firm to the base plate. The laptop will move down the desk

and the laptop will swivel so it can be moved and easily be seen from the left and right ends of the desk.

We brainstormed many different ways of the track can run down the desk and how it clips to the desk.

The sketches are ruff, but they will be are baseline and are subject to design changes Next week we

will make a little model of our track system, this will also be ruff, but this will just be our model of it

and also will be subject to change.

SKETCHES!!!!
